Scientists solve puzzle of arsenic-poisoning crisis in Asia

Tread 24, 2009 - Every day, more than 140 million people in southern Asia wee dram groundwater contaminated with arsenic. Thousands of people in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Myanmar and Vietnam die of cancer each year from persistent unmasking to arsenic, according to the Exceptional Well-being Codification. Some salubrity experts call it the biggest magnitude poisoning in recital. But one indefiniteness remained: Preferably of leftover chemically trapped in the river sediments, arsenic was somehow working its way into the groundwater more than 100 feet below the fa. Solving that conundrum could have valuable implications for policymakers stressful to backtrack the abundance poisoning, said Stanford University contaminate scientist Scott Fendorf. To find out, he launched a applicants studio in Asia in 2004 with two Stanford colleagues: Chris Francis, an second professor of geological and environmental sciences, and Karen Seto, now at Yale University. The opening den was funded with a two-year Woods Commence Environmental Plunge Projects...

Why would water back up into my washer while my water filtration system is rejuvinating?

The water system guy increased the concentrate presure of my well a couple weeks ago stating that my water filtration system was not working properly since pump was set at 20/40 psi? He increased it to 40/60 psi. Now when the water filtration system rejuvenates, water backs up into my washer tub. I am also on a septic too but this is elucidate water and does not smell, nor did this happen prior to him changing this dial on my well pump. What is wrong here? I have been in this house for 10 years benefit had the water filtration system for 9 years. He has been the same water guy who has been to my house each year to change my filters the whole time. But since I have a high content of iron in my water, he has to rebuild the heads on my filtration system each year. He said increasing the sway of my well pump would stop this problem. Now I have a new one and he is saying it's my septic. Someone please help?

when was the last period your holding tank was cleaned?
not that i think that is the problem if it was everything would be backing up or you would have a new pond forming on your lawn.
as for the right problem, is this water system self cleaning
r's has an auto cycle that backwashes the system maybe it's principled not draining properly (at first i thought it was screwed till i found out it was made that way)

From my experiences with my washer ...the recrudescence of water is usually due to weakness of the machine valve (it is the part that controls the return of water into the washer) .. I usually require to change it every two or three years for the same problem ....

I have iron in my tap water, thus making my hair orange. How do I get it out of my hair?

We haven't installed the filtration system as yet, so the water has a lot of iron in it, and this makes my locks as well as everything else orange.I want to know how to get it out of my hair. Is there something I can buy over the counter to take it out? We aren't able to cook with it or swig the sea it. But do shower with it. We can't do laundry at home either, as yet.

To get it out, mix baking soda go congruent parts of water, making a paste. Use bottles water to wash your hair with, with your normal shampoo that your usually use. After that, embrocate the mixture, let stand for 10 minutes, rinse, shampoo again and condition making sure you use the bottled water. Do this 2 times a week until you can see and lean to the difference. After that, maintain with the bottled water. You can buy gallons at the grocery store for really cheap.

Hot Water Filtration ...What are my options???

I have a mannered hot water boiler via tankless coil hot water heater. Water has heavy iron and other typical minerals. Screen on hot water side of washing contrivance CONSTANTLY plugs up. Already double cartidges on domestic cold before boiler, I know I should get a softener system, but are there any other Price EFFECTIVE options? Does a cheap in-line screen (near washing machine)or seep system exist that can reliably withstand 170Deg. heat? Standard cartridge filter systems will fizzle out on hot water systems. I just want to stop doing weekly maintence on the Washing machine. I've almost frayed out the plastic inlet on it, which means a $100 soleniod replacement when you strip that out! Any Suggestions welcome!!

The iron is dissolved in the water and must be removed via oxidation. A water softener is qualified of removing small amounts of iron and will need more frequent regeneration. Potassium permanganate or chlorine are also hand-me-down in treatment systems and are better suited for iron removal.
Particulate filters such as those you are using will remove solids from the water but not dissolved elements. I have a pair off of particulate filters at the input to my water softener to help keep it clean inside.
