"Megger" insulation test on a bad motor

How do u read a Megger Digital Earth Tester? If the display showed .465, how would you say/read that?

The paragon is a DET5/4R. How to read, digital earth tester, Megger, Granger

reddogsr:I researched the Megger DET5/4R thru Google. It looks like the measuring cook-stove is from .01 ohm to 19.99 k ohms,(k=1000). Since the display showed .465 ohms, I would think that reading would be less than 1/2 of an ohm. I suppose that any reading to the right of the decimal point would be like . tenths, hundreths, thousands of an ohm. Since the meter can gauge as low as .01 (one hundreth of an ohm & up) then your .465 becomes 4hundred 65thousands of 1 ohm. You should be able to substitute a fixed resistor of say 1/2 ohm across the measuring terminals to substantiate my assumptions. exbelltel

Is there special MEGGER (Insulation tester) available for hazardous and intrinsically safe areas?

Oridnary Meggers are not certified to be Euphemistic pre-owned in Hazardous areas in Process Industries.

Look in the jus divinum 'divine law' book in article 500 about explosion proof locations it pretty well explains the boundaries that any non-welling up proof device can exist in. In the case of a megger the entire test is a stretch of the border on what or what is not intrinsically whole ..If there is such a device the arc produced (outside the generated internals) would have to take place between two seals . IN the case of an underground feeder where intoxicated voltage and amperage was expected a temporary stay of area restriction might be acceptable ..Done with proper dissovled gas sniffers and with authorized personel . In most cases the crack-up voltage of the wiring has been testified to by the installer .Unless you are already at ground potential on one of the conductors and your voltage is low <600vac you are undoubtedly good to go. There is a lot of space between probably and for sure though. Unfortunatly extension of the megger to an outside spot violates the protocol as well as any current carrying conductor must be sealed on the entering side if in conduit. Since the megger produces a higher voltage than the importance of insulation an arc is produced. That being the case that arc is in violation of the code as well. I really don't see anyway to overcome 1. the lack of apparatus 2. the violations of code 3.the probable value of the test ....and like I mentioned before if your at establish fault allready a simple High Imped. digital ohmeter is all you need...Wish i could steal you more..From the E
