Why does the -5v never test out when i put a power supply tester on?

I have three power supplies ( one unusual out of the box brand new) all three units do not test out the -5v . Why is this and am I doing something wrong? I was told that is not "that" important for it to be lit. Any information on this would be pragmatic thank you.
If it isnt used is that why it would test as not there?

Almost all motherboards dont lack the -5v signal. just because there are no circuits no that require it. This -5v signal was orginally designed for ISA cards but since modern computers dont have the groove it isnt used.
