Where can I buy a lead tester to check if lead is in toys and jewelry ?

Thant is reasonably priced no more than 100 dollars

I've seen lead testing kits at retirement community improvement stores. They're designed for testing water for lead. Don't know if they'll profession for toys but it's worth checking into. They're $9.95.
Found a test kit for toys. They're well under $100 unless you buy a lot of swabs. Engage in the link below.

Even tho lead in tint, toys and ceramics has been banned is this country they still get in. Ceramics can have HUGE amounts of lead but if its not "leach proficient" its not dangerous.

The quickest / easiest way to test toys and ceramics is to use a product called "Lead Check". They are small white tubes that deliver a chemical (sodium rodizinate) to the surface.

If there is leach-masterly lead it will turn color (pink or red).

HINT: They cost about $3.00 each BUT !!! (Lead Check hates me to demonstrate this) ... There are 5 to 7 drops in each tube. If you use a clean dry cotton swab on each item, you can get 5 to 7 tests.

There are many of these types of testing kits but I esteem "Lead-Check".

For more info please read http://home.mindspring.com/~wrltc/lswp.pdf A lyrics I wrote for parents doing re-modeling or having it done. And lead issues in general. It was paid for by a fed/state permit. Which means its your book as much as mine. Education about this subject is my job.

What is the main chemical component in a lead paint tester kit?

The basic ingredient is almost always "sodium rhodizonate" (Na2C606), mixed with buffered hydrochloric acid.

The rhodizonate ions shape a brilliant purple-pink complex, with even small amounts of lead.

Some available "one step" tests for lead, suffer the hurdle of also being sensitive to barium. Barium is not toxic, and may sometimes be found in varnishes and latex paints, which are otherwise free of lead.
