I recall that proximity switches can be infrared, magnetic and more. I'm interested in the magnetic ones and i want to recall if there are any difference between this and a reed switch?
I'm studying for an exam, and am i bit unclear.
Thx.
Do they put across simple reed switches at hardware stores? If not where would i find one?
I entertain the idea Internet is the best place for you to find what you want. Try look into Amazon.com and Ebay, they'll save you a lot of then to find and to worry where to buy them.
I have righteous made an alarm circuit consisting of a buzzer, switch, reed switch and battery in series. However, when the door is closed (reed switch and contact are together) the panic sounds. I want the alarm to sound when the door is open instead. Is there are simple way to do this?
The simplest way may be an line-up involving another magnet and careful placement of the magnet on the door.
Place a magnet next to the reed switch, with it's North all over facing the side of the reed switch. Put it close enough that it just reliably closes the reed switch.
Now move the reed switch on the door so that its North pole ends up next to the other end of the reed switch when the door is closed (and the South extremity is not near the reed switch). The idea is to arrange things so when the door is shut, the stationary magnet makes one end of the reed switch North, and the door magnet makes the other end of the reed switch also North, so both sides keep at bay and the reed switch opens.
I've not tried to build an installation this way, however I did a lot of experimenting with reed switches and magnets and found that this does work if the magnets are lately right. Do not put the stationary magnet too close, and it must be arranged so both magnets have the North pole pointing towards their personal ends of the reed switch with the South poles pointing away from the reed switch.
Note that North and South are not that important, but only that the magnets have the same standard pointed to the reed switch. Which you can figure out by finding which ends of the magnets repel each other.
I hope this helps.
