What is the difference between a proximity switch and a reed switch?

I be acquainted with that proximity switches can be infrared, magnetic and more. I'm interested in the magnetic ones and i want to know if there are any metamorphosis between this and a reed switch?
I'm studying for an exam, and am i bit unclear.

prox switches are typically non contact and either inductive or capacitive. I reed switch is typically write to type limit type switch with an arm or roller that actuates it. Do you have a more specific question?

Ultrasonic proximity sensor may be acceptable for your usage it will cover 30 feet good angle span .(Laser type may be ready try your best it required rear sensor).
