How do you open a case on a Think Pad lap top to try and fix the monitor switch?

I have an older IBM call to mind a consider pad, and it seems that the little switch that turns the monitor on isn't working, thought I'd try to maybe look and see if I can do something to fix it but can't personage how to get to it, even sfter taking out all the screws I could find. And can an external monitor be hooked up to it in just in case. I believe its a Pentium 3.

That minor switch you are talking about does not turn the monitor on. All it does is tells the computer if the lid of the laptop is open or closed.

If you are not getting any video on the monitor, I can almost warranty you it is not because of that switch.

Most likely you have some other issue causing the problem. It could be any number of things.

Try the monitor externally, if you are able to use the computer with the external monitor you can cut the issue to the video adapter, Panel Inverter, Ribbon cable or the back light.

From there, you will probably wish to get a professional to look at it.

Can I take my HP w19b monitor and hookup 2 computers up to it and switch the monitor between analog & digital?

I have two computers that I'd like to be competent to use my one monitor without buying any other peripherals. My HP w19b monitor has two inputs..DVI and the regular analog. One of my computers could be hooked up via regular analog pull and my better computer could be hooked up via DVI cable. Under my monitor menu I can switch between digital and analog inputs. I don't have an extra monitor rope available yet but if this will work I'll go out and buy an extra cable.
