Managed And Unmanaged Switches

Managed switches have more power than unmanaged switches. They as a rule extend SNMP (plain network handling draft) for monitoring the station of connections, STP and other advanced features like QOS (distinction of accommodation) is hardened for tolerate "lofty immediacy" messages throughput ,VLAN (effective nearby section network) avoid traffic between groups of ports etc. These features may reshape between manufactures and models. Managed switches are also absolutely a bit more high-priced. Frame them up may take a small longer as compared to unmanaged one, which is typically twist and act. Managed switches have remotely reachable comfort (CLI or Web interface) and consent to things such as turning ports on or off.

Stackable Managed Switches?

I currently have (Netgear FSM726) 2 x 24-haven managed switches (with gigabit links) and want to add on an third switch. Do I have to assign an IP address to the third switch or should the router do this automatically. I counterfeit that since it was working as an extension of the other 2 switches it would be pretty much plug and play?

If you do not apportion an IP to the switch, you will not know its address and you won't be able to bounce into it and manage it.

If you do not give out an IP to the switch, you will not know its address and you won't be able to bounce into it and manage it.

That depends on the way you moor the units.

If you cascade the switches, they will work as two separate units. You cascade when you use convention ethernet ports to hook them togheter. You'll need to assign a different IP to manage the new unit.

If you stack them, you'll have on segregate unit with the ports added. To stack the units you'll need special cable and bizarre ports on both units. Not all models have this capability so you must check it out. No need to assign IP because it will work as if the previously installed part had some ports added.

Multiple Managed Switches?

I have setup my new thing space to use four 24 port switches. I am only utilizing 1 VLAN and for some reason, the network is slow. These switches are 10/100/1000 and are all connected into 1 rod, not daisy chained.

These switches are managed switches, and store n forward :(. I am not positive the switches are the problem, but i am guessing they are. Is there anything i should implement or transmute in the managed switches to make this faster?

The switches are HP ProCurve 1800. Could i use Trunking to connect these switches together? i think the store and forward is what is bogging it down.

S&F will not lift - I am a Cisco guy so can't offer specific advice.
Make sure the inter switch links are OK - stark configure the at 1000/Full. If you can change them to cut through or frag free or similar forwarding it will help.

What are managed switches in networks?

"A managed lash allows you to control the individual ports of your switch."
