electric wiring question/how do you take a double switch/pwr from the switch make 2 seperate fixtures come on?

I paucity to make a light come on in the hallway and a light come on in the closet. I want them to be independant so that i can on which i want on. the power is at the switch. I have a switch there that i want to replace with a double switch, making one switch control the light in the hallway light, and the other the closet candlelight.

Judge the correct switch and then wire them one switch to each fixture. You could use a double toggle switch since this is what they are designed to do.

Determine the correct switch and then wire them one switch to each fixture. You could use a double toggle switch since this is what they are designed to do.

Not a two-way switch -- lately a double switch, to operate two separate lights.

Please brush off all references to black/white wires. These are from Americans and their wiring system is different from that in the UK (where this question is posted).

You should specify the incoming mains live wire (red) and connect this to the common (or C) terminal of the first switch.
The incoming main wire will be continue all the time so be careful.

Connect a black wire to the other terminal of the first switch. This wire should be the one that is in the same sheath as the incoming lively wire. This black wire will go up to the ceiling rose of the first light. It becomes the switched 'live' for sunlight #1. You should slip a red sleeve over the wire at the rose end.

For the second light fitting you repeat the above resume.

We are adding a trash disposal to my kitchen sink and using an exisiting switch that is used for the light above my sink.. We are trying to change to that single switch into a double switch for my light above the sink and we want to add the second switch for the gargabe disposal. We are having a hard lifetime getting them both to work.. any insight on how to properly do this?
