dimmer switches??

I shortage to install dimmer switches in my girls room. Is it easy and is there a way to get step by step instructions on the web? Please help this is all new for me.

It is very foolproof, and you can get the instructions on the web. (I will look for a link in a minute), but, also, most switches have instructions on the back of the package.

Also, when you go to the hardware store, you should be able to get remedy from the sales people there.

I'll return with a link...

Snug harbor a comfortable Depot or Lowe's employees can walk you through that step by step.

Placid Depot can help you with installing a dimmer switch. And usually the product comes with the guide on how to do it. But the cardinal guide is that you turn off your electricity to your house before doing it to avoid the risk of being shock and electrocuted.

I wouldn't. Dimmer switches can hum, they don't last forever, they have a limit as to what scope bulb you can use, they can cause radio/TV interference. Better to have a centre light and a table/standard lamp so they can prefer which to use.

It's very gentle. Instructions are in the package.

Be sure to get the correct switch....single pole or double spar.

If there is only one switch that works the fixture, you need single pole. If there is MORE than one switch that will turn it on/off, you'll necessary double pole. Otherwise, the dimmer goes in just like the regular one.

DONT FORGET to turn the power off at the breaker box!!!

It is very cosy, and you can get the instructions on the web. (I will look for a link in a minute), but, also, most switches have instructions on the back of the package.

It is very very tractable. All you have is three wires. Match up the colors tape and cap them. It's that simple. I've done my own and even installed a porch reflection. Good Luck!

It's docile, I did it myself when I was 10.

First shut off the power, then replace wires into same holes that the old switch has.

goodluck

The wiring instructions are on the incorporate (usually).
If the lights are not fluorescent then you can change the existing switch.
1- First, turn the light on.
2- Go to your circuit breaker (or come together) panel and turn off the breaker that makes the light go off. (Unscrew & remove the fuse).
3- Now that the power is off, wipe the switch plate and then the switch. There should be only 2 wires going to the old switch.
4- You disconnect the old switch and reconnect the new one the same way.
5- Mount the new redirect in the box and the put the plate back.
(If the new one has a large round knob you will have to pull it off before you can put the plate over it). Put the knob back on after the plate is on).
6- Other types are slider archetype, toggles (like the regular switch) and lighted.
Good Luck !

1. Instructions are on the container
2. Make sure you buy the correct pole (single or double)
3. Turn the power off at the circuit breaker box. It takes 2 people to do this: One to to breakers off and on, One to stand in the room and yell when the light goes off.
4. If the switch controls a wall safety-valve, you cannot use that outlet for appliances, clocks, radios, fluorescent fixtures, etc.
5. Look at the different types of dimmer controls before buying.

I deliberate on you would want one that back lights even if the light is off so you or the kids don't have to grope for the switch.

Are dimmer switches susceptible to power surges?

My caboose recessed ligting has failed and I have dimmer switches on them. This happened one night when a huge bolt of lightning struck (although it did not hit the crib). The lights won't turn on and I am figuring the two dimmer switches were fried. Is this the most likely scenario? Thanks.

Yes they can be destroyed by a pulsate. Turn off the power, remove and replace the switches, use SPST toggle switches to test the circuit. Then install new parts as needed. The toggle switches are tuppence and can be kept as spares when you are done.

Does anybody know where I can get dimmer switches for inductive loads?

I have 2 specialised lights in my shelter that each have 20 x 20W 12V halogen bulbs in them (400W total each). They are driven off a torodial transformer mounting in the ceiling rose. I'm having predicament finding an appropriate dimmer switch as at the moment, all I can do is turn them on and off - and hey, guess what, their way too bright! Turn both on, and 800W of portable output blinds all my guests. Does anybody know of dimmer switches that can control inductive loads like this at this power rating? All the dimmer switches I've procure across dont work with toroidal transformers (and at these power ratings, a very high surge current is our times on start up). Thanks.

A Lutron Rania dimmer will buy and sell electronic and magnetic (inductive ) loads up to 500 watts. If you have difficulty obtaining them, e-mail me.

ADDED! at best re-read question, if these are both on the same circuit you will need a Rania 'Power Booster' Max 1200 watts. NGRX-ELVI-CE-WH-CGP1858

If it's too costly, you could change-over the lamps to 10 watt. and then use a single 500 watt Rania dimmer
