In the gone and forgotten seven months we’ve gone through the undulations of war, house-markets, Steve Jobs’ trim and other word that’s made us kowtow, puff, derision and respond in a dim way. So be as one on for a stage, the use of the huddle dimmer refers analogously to how conversations are overpower started in the collective-media level.

Wondering why I put a hyphen in popular media? That could be an absolute soap-box debate for another day on the benefits of chirography grammatically fix missives in a age that’s married to LOL and ROFLMA and thx and bai and other manglings. But not today. Veracious here and convenient now I’m prevailing to talk about why a dimmer switch propositions is richer reconsider than right-minded flicking the lights on when you’re effective to dole out yourself with the Webiverse.

Is it attainable to use a dimmer switch on the lights that i have installed they are 20w low voltage halogen lamps, and there are 6 fitted. Supply is from 2 , 60w transformers

Dimmers labour by having a larger available voltage range supplied than what is supplied by a step down transformer.
The dimmer and lights would have to be particularly designed to work with one another.A normal dimmer's potentiometer would not be rated to use the low voltage.

Trying to wire a dimmer control switch on a ceiling fan and need some expert help please!?

I have a rotary controlled dimmer switch that I'm gonna mount by my bed and I after to wire it into just the lights on my ceiling fan (I may get a seperate switch for the fan at a later date) so that I have dimming control of the lights. The wires I have nearby are: coming out of the ceiling = White, Black & Green. Coming from fan = Blue, white & Green. The dimmer guide switch = has 2 black wires together and green by itself. I have a solid white lamp cord that I'm running from the ceiling fan to the dimmer switch and I moreless merely need to know what wires from above I need to use for my connections between them. I had this config. wired up to an old ceiling fan in which I cut the pull tie off of and wired it that way ,but now I've bought a new ceiling fan and don't want to cut the pull chain. I want to wire it from the privy of the base this time. Thanks for any help you can offer me.
Please be as specific as possible with your answers cause I'm not no whiz electrician ,but I do fill I can do this job myself with the right advice. Just want to make sure I make the right connections so I don't yearn my house down.

You can not wire it that way because you only have a two wire coming from the ceiling and you only have two wires from the fan , so that is not even set up for the fan and lights to be seprate unless it came with a fan dial or remote control.
And that would be your other option is to get a fan with a remote control or a fan with a wired fan control which would work with the wires you already have

How can I add a dimmer switch to a portable light?

I fancy to use an incandescent light as a portable worklight (extension cord and cage to cover bulb) but I indigence to add a dimmer switch of some kind to vary the amount of light given off. I want to use this for movies so it can't be built in to a wall. Are there any compact dimmer switches?

I am not unswerving if there are any commercially made add-on dimmer switches out there, but it would be easy enough to make one.

Go to Home Depot, buy a 6' piece of #14/3 rubber rope. Make sure it has a black, a white, and a green wire in it. Buy a dimmer, a small switch box (I recommend a handy box with 1/2" knockouts) and switch portion to fit the handy box, get two squeeze connectors for 1/2" knockouts, a male cord cap with three prongs, and a female string cap with three prongs.

(you could buy a 14 guage extension cord to take the place of the 14/3 cord, and cord caps, to deliver time, and maybe money, but be sure you get a grounded one with 3 prongs for your safety)

Cut the 14/3 wire about 16" from one end, and denude the wires on one end to go into the female cord cap. install per the directions. Next poke out the knockouts on the ends of the handy box, and put in the by connectors. Tighten up both squeeze connectors to hold the cord in place. Strip the longer twine on one end to go into the male cord cap, install per directions. then strip about 6" of the other ends of both wires, and insert into the available box. Connect the green wires together, and ground the dimmer using the screw on the dimmer to connect the green wires to it. Then use a wire nut, and sew the white wires together. Then connect the black wires to the dimmer per the directions. Install the dimmer in the box, and put on the plate. Done.

You should now have a portable dimmer to use on any white-hot load up to the rating of your dimmer. I think the cheap ones go up to 600W.
