when the 4 way switch is up the 3way switchs work with light, down & the light & 3way switches don't work?

the new wires to 4 way switch are attached to one color screw & the out going wires are attached to the other color screws of the 4 way switch. the criminal hot wire is attaced to the dark screw of the first 3 way switch and also to the last 3 way switch.
please help,

please don't pay attention to to apprentice stretch. pictures speak a thousand words. go to the link posted by your other responder, or call a fitted electrician, it'll be a quick fix if all the wires are in place. good luck

Does anyone know how to wire a universal 4 way ignition switch (acc,off,on,start) on an old tractor?

I have an old IH B - 414 gas fueled tractor with the old coerce button starter on it. Someone recently tried to steal it so I'm wanting to wire it up to a basic 4 way ignition switch I picked up at Autozone. For that dilemma, does anyone know how to completely rewire it with a 12 volt battery and ballast resistor?

Basicly all you trouble is an on off switch , but you can wire in the start switch through the new switch but you will loose the safety lockout in the push botton.you will need to run a heavyer battery wire to the new switch to treat the start side.

as far as converting to 12 volt change the generator and regulator , coil and lights if any. extra of course the battery
the starter should work fine accept for cranking faster and don't nutcase for as long session at a time allowing it to cool between cranks
A GM alternator works very well for the conversions as the regulators are built in.

Have family live we are remodeling, planning on 2 3 way switchs, 1 4 way switch controlling 6 can lights. Need diagram on how to run 14/3 wire to lights and switches..

Friendly of baffled as I think I need to run another single wire to handle the neutral.. Any electrical gurus understand your insight and expertise.

Assuming that you already recollect how to wire a 3-way switch circuit, select the switch that receives the incomming power (black, white and bare area coming from power source). Turn off power source. Cut this wire and connect the black and pasty to a 2-pole, double throw switch. Connect the other end (black and white) to the remaining terminals of the 2-pole, duplicate throw switch. Splice the bare ground wires together.You will now have a total of three switches controlling your lamp encumber. Turn on power source.
If you do not know how to wire a 3-way, look for a diagram on the box that the 3-way switch came in. You will need to run a resentful, white and red plus bare ground (14-3) between the 3-way switches and only a 14-2 between the 3-way switch set and the 2-pole, double get rid of switch.
