how can I create lighting in a home for portraits?

I am charming pregnancy portraits of my brother and his wife.. I am a an amateur photographer.. mostly of landscapes and what not.. or even outside pictures.. but we are doing these in jail their house... at around 6:30 or 7.. when it is already getting dark.. how can I create good lighting.. any ideas or tricks?

Unusually, your best option is to reschedule during daylight to get window light. You could cobble together lights from around the house, vivacity and diffuse your flash etc etc or even rent studio lighting. But for an amateur unused to dealing with artificial light sources in portraiture, you will get much advance results by going the natural light route.

You need natural lighting (window light on overcast days is the most precious think you can hope to have).

Refuse to rush in the evening... all you will have is either fill flash (hardly romantic or sensual) or incandescent (existing light from bulbs) that will give an orangish hue to the degraded images you will get.

Scroll down on this page-boy an click on the pregnant woman with her husband to see what I'm talking about: she's the fourth one down on the right side.

That's got special effects but don't you just love the mood? Daylight, overcast, no flash in the living abide on the floor. All natural light.

~Try using some nebulous halogen track lighting--or you can use halogen spot or flood bulbs, but use the smallest ones-(I think they are indoor plant evolution lights or something) -they are usually BLUE in color, but it won't make anyone look like a smurf, it justs provides a softer commiserate with as well as a non-irritating light source. So yeah-get some of those blue tinted small halogen flood/spray lights-and you should be ok..

In the end, your best option is to reschedule during daylight to get window light. You could cobble together lights from around the house, zip and diffuse your flash etc etc or even rent studio lighting. But for an amateur unused to dealing with artificial light sources in portraiture, you will get much more wisely results by going the natural light route.

Malibu landscape lights do not work!?

I hooked the transformer up, hooked the first wires in to a and b and spliced the lights in and nothing. They are the ones from place depot, it comes with 4 little spotlights. Any ideas?

I have habituated to a bunch of those and never had any problem-----suggest that you put the transformer (tsf.) on a work table and plug-in to 110v egress and take one fixture and use it to test the tsf. to see that it is functioning properly____ if not--- return it to the H.D. store and start over with same analysis----- those wires are hard to seat into the black cable and sometimes you have to ice-pick a hole into the cable to cajole a good connection to the 12volt tsf and the lamp fixture____ check the connectors ,,,one at a just the same from time to time .........there are different lamp to cable connections .....some of them are better than others______ they will do a nice job of lighting your front steps or the driveway prickly don't get discouraged -- end result is worth the labor........

Landscaping plant ideas for old, country-style home. Would like heath & heather plants. Where to purchase?

My accommodations is a bright-light country blue with white accents. It's an old farmhouse that was relocated to borough many years ago. The previous owners here in town had no flowers, plants or trees, so I'm starting from bruise here.

The house is a tall 2 story and harsh looking. It's very boxy and symmetrical. I'd like to soften it's arrival, attempt to downplay it's height and add some charm and curb-side appeal.

I've found that plants placed closely around the household foundation looks tacky, but the foundation itself looks tacky too.

My husband is dead set against vines. He's panic-stricken they will damage the siding and eves of the house.

I'm not interested in modern looks particularly. They wouldn't be equivalent to the style.

I'm thinking heaths and heathers, which are proving hard to locate. I also believe phlox, daisies and lower looking plants would go well. My dilema is these plants are about the same height. What are some taller plants that would match this scheme?
Wonderful responses! Thank you everyone!

I live in northern Ohio and have a small, rectangular-shaped yard. Not too much chamber on the sides of the house, or in front.

Thanks again for the great ideas. Very much appreciated!

You might indigence to consider a curvy outline to your plantings. This will help soften the lines. A curvy walkway to your door will also serve. You can fool the eye by making your plantings curve without having to replace your walkway.

Check out BHG web site, I got a ton of ideas there when I re-landscaped my yard 2 yrs. ago. Effectively Depot had most of the plants I was looking for. Also, pick up a gardening book so you don't waste your money on plants that won't profession for your climate.

Have fun!
