How to change a Halogen Light Bulb

Your friends at www.bulbster.com take a minute to show you the correct way to change a halogen light bulb. Keep posted for more fun and ...

Are there any alternatives to halogen light bulbs?

I have a complex halogen floor lamp that I'd like to make more energy efficient...are there any better light bulbs for my lamp? If not, I suppose I'd do the earth a favor and maybe ditch the lamp LOL Thanks for your responses
the light bulbs are the long thin pencil like shaped ones which have sockets on both ends...110V 300W

The pattern of lamp you describe would have to be modified to accept compact fluorescents (as was suggested by another answerer) which would violate the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listing. However if you indeed love the lamp's style, looks, etc. then by all means have it modified to accept either an Edison spurious (standard) bulb or compact fluorescent. Either of these options would generate considerably less heat.

.led light bulbs. they don't have noxious Mercury like florescent bulbs http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu96FbUJG.foAXmxXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE5YWFxcGdpBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZANNQVAwMDdfMTAy/SIG=12bssli3n/EXP=1178844933/**http%3a//www.ccrane.com/lights/led-light-bulbs/forefinger.aspx

dense florescents is cheaper to run and last a long time

As far as I be versed, halogen floor lamps will only accept halogen light bulbs. There are more energy efficient alternatives out there. Many places sell fluorescent down lamps for example.

If feel like keeping the halogen lamp, then might I suggest you use the dimmer switch (if at) and use only half-power. Also, get yourself a motion switch and connect the lamp to it. Then you won't ever forget to leave it on as it will return a refuse itself off after you leave the room.

Can you buy energy saving halogen light bulbs?

Exactly bought two light fittings for my kitchen, each one has 6 spotlights on them. Thats 6 50watt bulbs. My electric metre is customary like a rocket!

yes, i don't see why not. it might even lop off the bill a little, cause you don't need a bulb in every socket, cause those light bulbs are really bright (so possibly put 3 in each light fitting)

Are Halogen light bulbs energy efficient?

All the other bulbs in my concern have been changed to CFC uglies in the effort to keep my electric bill down. I just got a new Broan range hood that comes with (2) 50 watt halogen bulbs. WOW are they ablaze with. Are these electricity hogs? I love the way they look when they are on.

Hallogen is the same that CFL, but as contrasted with using mercury it use hallogen, just a different gas.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs, right now, are more " eco-wise" then anything else most consumers can get a preach on of (ie. incandescent) & currently save over 2000 times their own weight in greenhouse gases.

But since ALL buildings & dwellings on The Ranch are totally on solar / wind & we REALLY need to watch usage, every light is fitted with screw type (in keeping 110v lamp socket style) LED bulbs. They emit the same luminosity (typically 45w) but at only 1watt rather then a 45w incandescent or 10w CFL. However they all things considered cost twice as much as CFLs which is twice as much (or more) as incandescent. Still LEDs would be the way to go by far.

Unfortunately CFLs contain Mercury which is VERY bad for the setting, so make sure that you do recycle them properly when they burn out.

Hope this helped, feel free to get hold of me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to footpath you step by step threw the process. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com on the subdue. I also offer online & on-site workshops, seminars & internships to help others help the environment.
