China's toxic 'green light bulbs' - 16 Jun 09

Drive-efficient lightbulbs may be better for the environment, but not necessarily good for the people who make them. China is one of the main ...

Why is the government allowing so called green lightbulbs to dominate the market when they contain mercury?

Not to divulge that i and a lot of other people suffer migraines from these so called green lightbulbs. Why when these lightbulbs are anything but green are they being forced onto people against their will?

Oh, you haven't even mentioned the hassle of cleaning up breakages.

When reading the instructions about simple up in case of breaking.....is the government not concerned about the terror of it......

Are you paranoid?

Low vitality bulbs do contain a small amount of mercury which is not at all dangerous when contained within the bulb. The bulbs should be disposed of responsibly and can either be sedate in your normal household waste bin or can be recycled at your local council’s Household Waste and Recycling Pivot or at collection points provided by some light bulb retailers.

Should you break a bulb in the house, it is advised that the dejected material is swept up using a damp cloth and both the debris and cloth put into a double layered phony bag and taken to a collection point for disposal. The room should then be well ventilated for at least 15 minutes.

The ministry shouldn't be controlling anything of this nature. The government -should- make companies responsible for stating if their products bridle any harmful substances, and they do.

If people don't want to buy these products, then the company will have to change or go out of business.

Because they insufficiency to be seen doing something to please their masters in Brussels. I'm surprised you have not realised that we have a Quisling government

I like mercury.Ther is lots of mercury in tuna marlin and sworfish and we eat that so whats your fine kettle of fish.

I've replaced all my assault bulbs with the newer, lower energy bulbs and I have already noticed the difference in my energy bills.

It is your reliability to make sure that light bulbs are taken to a hazard waste recycling facility. Do not put them in the crap!

Who knows they are a law unto themselves.

One of biography's hypocrisies, and they cannot be recycled, plus have you ever tried to read by the light of these bulbs, i got some free from an energy crowd and they are really awful. I will only keep them for emergencies.

It's all in the name of the 'atmosphere', like concreting over the countryside. If you break one of these bulbs you have to leave the room for 15 minutes because of rickety gases. Apart from that you can't see very well, certainly not if you want to read. More like a punishment policy than anything else.

Where can I find red and green lightbulbs with large bases?

I have a 1940's era Christmas tree champion with outlets for the strands of lights, and sockets for large lightbulbs. The sockets are larger than the standard diameter lightbulbs. Does anyone be aware a source, e.g, website, for such lightbulbs?

I undertake you mean you want the larger (standard) size, not the smaller Xmass tree size and not some freakishly munificent size only made in the 40's. Colored standard base bulbs were always available in good aquarium stores. Having said this, most stores wont read too many because they take up valuable wall space. Space is money these days. Try an online aquarium supply company (wwwthatfishplace) or buylightfixtures.com. You may find everything you dreamed of.

How many Green Lightbulbs does it take to stop a hurricane/tornado from smashing your home?

This ridiculous is a safety with Physics, "If a tree falls..." conter reasoning to those who invasion there way in front of critical and essential issues like living or dying in a storm, earthquake, etc. If you are at least protective wilful, you, like me, should get a laugh out of this question. If not, then supply me with a hurricane proof home for under $250, 000.00, then sell me your aesthetics.
Because I can do it for you!!

It takes literally three beeswax candles to cancel out my chances of being hit by mother nature.

No wait, I can't do that, because then I am exploiting bees.
Have to keep the PETA folks gratified as well.

My new answer is one earwax candle. That just has a nasty ring to it, but oh well, at least my ears are clean. I am exploiting nobody except myself and the aroma keeps away bugs (and sandal wearing, non bathing people).

Here is a good story.
A few years ago, some promise ol' developer wanted to cut down trees and clear the land for more homes. Well, you know who were out there protesting. Some of them were getting people to set one's hand to a petition to keep the land and trees as it is. Well, they approached my car and asked me to sign their petition.

Oh it was good, I wish I could have filmed it or something. I asked the protester a puzzle first and I got her so confused, she did not know what to say.
I asked "So, you people are holding cardboard signs made from trees by a of the same sort of wood and you want me sign a piece of paper which is also made from trees to help save trees?" "Do I important it with a pencil?"

She was just standing there with that "hit by logic" look and did not know what to say.
