Flourescent light bulbs not working in my restroom fixture?

I rightful screwed some flourescent bulbs into my bathroom fixture, and they don't light. But the bulbs they're replacing did light, and the incandescent bulbs that are still in the fixture do still owrk. They're screwed in as far as they'll go. Any ideas?
Nevermind, guys...I solved my uncontrollable...the plastic border on the bottom was stopping the contacts from hitting the contacts. There was a glass fixture that was catching it. I took those off (actually never needed or liked them anyway) and now it works great...but thanks for the help anyway!

What is the proper way to dispose of flourescent light bulbs?

Flourescent light bulbs suppress mercury, so they cannot just be thrown in the trash or recycling bin.

In our community, even residential users are required to take fluorescent bulbs to a hairy disposal facility - same place you would take your used batteries and electronic equipment. Check with your local pillage management district or public works department.

Compact flourescent light bulbs, should we turn off when we leave the room?

We have replaced most of the fiery (traditional)
light bulbs in our house with energy saving compact flourescent light bulbs.
We are concerned with both global warming and energy manipulation. My question is, should we turn these bulbs out when we leave a room or leave them on? I am even unsure if we should leave them on at night rather than turn them on each morning? That is, which way provides the least repercussions on the environment and also uses the least energy.

Coil them off!
