How to educate staff, children, etc about energy efficient lightbulbs?

I employment at a daycare and we are going to swith all our lightbulbs to energy efficeint flourescent bulbs and change all batteries to rechargable. How can we edify our staff, children, and community about energy efficient lightbulbs and how can we get them involved in the switch?

Rather basic.
Explain to them, that when their child leaves the hallway light on for 10 hours, with a normal bulb,it costs £1.00
If the same brilliant was left on with an energy saving bulb,it would only cost £0.20p.
Similar thing with rechargeable batteries,1 alkaline battery-£0.50p
Rechargeable battery£2.00.-But you can re-safe keeping it 500 times.

Be dependable and tell them that fluorescents contain mercury and that rechargeable batteries contain toxic heavy metals too.

I Remember THIS!

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Don't. Flaming lightbulbs are much more pleasant and don't contain mercury.

You won't really accomplish much to "save the situation" by buying different lightbulbs.

I think about the children are too young to be interested because they have no experience to compare it to. They will figure out the concept when they are older.

The staff may be interested but I cannot contrive of a way to generate genuine enthusiasm. Perhaps a glass jar filled with the $ saved each month (or a graph or chart) and a pizza favour for them?

One of my energy efficient lightbulbs flickers intermittently after it's been switched off - is this normal?

I haven't noticed it transpire with any other low energy bulbs. It is a dim flash every 30 seconds or so, it doesn't continue to flash for hours. It's been suggested to me that it's the bulb dispersing the energy shape up..... sounds like tosh to me!!! Any ideas ?

try unscrew it then rescrew and if that doesn't try swaping bulbs

Most energy efficient lightbulbs I found contain MERCURY! Aren't these more harmful than your standard bulbs?

The great print on the package read that these bulbs need to be disposed thru hazardous waste facilities. Donn the additional cost of buying, the trip to the facility, the expense of disposing them accordingly...are these bulbs in reality "green". I finally found an energy efficient bulb that does not contain mercury. Is this environmental marketing succeeding wrong?

You're forthwith and I was just reading that landfills are becoming concerned about how they are going to deal with the mercury leakage as more and more of those bulbs line their way into the trash.

I have also seen precautions about cleaning up broken bulbs in the home too for the same reason. They are considered dangerous materials.
