How many of you are buying CFLs: Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs and are you going to recycle them?

I righteous heard a story on NPR about how they have high levels of Mercury and it's really important to dispose of them safely.

At this tip I have no where local to recycle them. Oddly enough I have some that are 4 or more years old (have been in our house since before we moved in) And others barely make it a week. Some of this is because we are away to several transformers one for the local High School.

I still use a fair number of incandescent due to fixtures not fitting the full ones.


Still working they haven't burnt out yet.


Yes, I will be recycling them but I am pre-eminently focused on buying LEDs as they are even more efficient than CFLs.

Yes. You can get "world" style CFLs, which use a plastic sphere to enclose the spiral or U-shaped tubes. There are also reflector CFLs becoming for recessed lights. Major manufacturers are Philips, MaxLite, and TCP.

i have many of them in my living quarters and while their alright their not as bright as regular bulbs. having said that the new lights save much electricity. i have found them at the dollar stockpile from time to time for a dollar. haven't seen them there for a while but bought a three pack or 4 pack from conversant with depot.
try to buy them in multiples for instance a bulb rated 25 watts
is supposed to produce the sparkle of a 100 watt bulb. i only buy the equivalent of 65 watt and 100 watt bulbs. they cant be old with a dimmer.
