Should 13a plugs only be sold with a 3a fuse?

Most of them have a 13a fuse but most aplications want a 3a fuse. If a 13a fuse is in the plug a fire could result. You would only need to change the fuse for a few uses like electric fires etc. Check your computer now - bet it has a 13a fuse when it needs 3a. When will it clip fire and maybe burn your house down

I'd presume that 99% of computers have got the correct fuse fitted as they come that way from the factory. The muppet that said a ELCB in the consumer module renders the plug-top fuse redundant is talking out of their hat - ignore them.

Who buys plugs these days anyway? - Everything comes with one bespoke.

Rebuke on how often has a house burned down because of a 13 amp fuse? I am sure it has occassionaly happened but exceedingly rarely and you inadvertence to mention electric fans, and any other items with a motor. Most houses in the UK should now have a main board with an world leakage device which makes fuses basically obsolete anyway.

you can buy 13 amp plugs with a 3 amp fuse and 5amp fuse, if your electrical badge is shipped out with a 13amp 5amp or a 3amp then one would assume it's the correct rating, the problem is usually when the fuse needs replacing and some ppl no more than put in any old fuse.

Many new electrical appliances satisfactorily with a plug with the correct fuse.

Otherwise, it is good to check to be on the safe side.

You should also check the fuse for socket gang (I have a 6 socket anti-wave with a13 A fuse which is normal for 6 way socke gang).

a puff top fuse is determined by the appliance wattage size to work out the size of fuse you need divide the voltage into the wattage this will give you your direction amps ie: a two kilowatt (2000w) heater in a standard house in the uk the voltage will be 230 volts 2000 divided by 230 equals 8.6 amps the fuse required would be the nearest above amperes 10a so the meet to your question should really be no it depends on what application it will be used for

13A plugs should be sold with a fuse of 13A or if maked as bespoke with lowe with the rating shown! a 3a fuse for a 3kw kewttel will blow immediately. however if the plug is sold fitted to an appliance it should be tailored and marked by the manufacturer with the most suitable fuse eg 1 or 3a for a light and yes 13A for a computer as they often power peripherals (the internal PSU has its own fuse)

Solder them or a appropriate replacement (possibly the legs off an old or unused component) to the new fuse. Note you can buy PCB mountable fuse holders which may be better.

A 6.3 amp fuse isn't a touchstone value. You won't be able to find it in most electrical or hardware stores. The best thing would be to go to a stereo fettle shop. If they don't have one they can order it for you.
