Homemade Waste Oil Burner

My idea of a Turk burner, borrowing from plans found on the web.

Burning Waste Motor Oil In a Furnace?

I've been planning on afire motor oil in my standard furnace for a while now. It's free, and if I filter it properly, it should be okay. Does anyone actually be sure about burning waste motor oil in a standard furnace? (i.e. not a specialized waste oil furnace.) I don't want to burn it in my car, just my furnace. Does anyone cognizant of anything about that?

Do an online search, I am melodic sure I have seen this covered somewhere, maybe allexperts.com? I know someone who has burned old motor oil in their shop woodstove for years. It is a drip system once they get the fire going with wood.

no thats bad

hu?????

not in a dependable furnace

Youa'll have to try and see!
Some of the new oils won't blacken especially the synthetics and synthetic blends.

Assuming you are talking about passionate this oil in a fuel oil furnace, don't. If you do, make sure you have your home owners insurance paid in full.

It's successful to smoke horribly - lots of blue smelly smoke that may coat the inside of the flue with carbon that can one day become hot enough to resplendence like lit charcoal (i.e. a "chimney fire").

Lubricating oil doesn't burn very well and the amount of heat you get from it probably won't be worth the hassle of modifying the furnace to fill out c draw up it ignite and burn - IF you can get it to ignite - you can try an experiment - see how much more difficult it is to ignite a few drops of motor oil compared to kerosene. Put both on some non-combustible surface (no fair using paper!) and attempt to light each one.

dont do it. it will encumber up the pump strainer and the fuel nozzle in no time. the only way you can do it is if you mix kerosene 50/50. the motor oil staight will run smoky and soot up your furnace. its a awful idea. it can be done in commercial boilers without a prob but in residential it a no no no...

I employ you are talking about a fuel oil furnace, not a propane or natural gas furnace.

I would not try to burn waste motor oil in a fuel oil furnace. The two fuels have conflicting viscosities and by-products in them. I do not think it would be safe or productive.

If you really want to burn motor oil, buy a heater made specifically for that.

Judging by the smoke allowed off by a car that burns oil I wouldn't recommend it. Better to take it to a reclamation center. Many auto parts stores now take used motor oil.

LargelyDon't do it. Stop, you need a specialized furnace for this, other then the county fining you for pollution, other things like seething your home down, better look into it.

How much should I be charged to install a waste oil furance in a garage?

I have purchased a Lanair Waste oil furnace for my garage and valid need it installed. Everywhere I call says that if I didn't purchase it from them, they won't install it. I have been told to hardly do it myself, just wondering if anyone has had one installed and how much it cost them.
thanks!

Why not try to instate it yourself? I have not installed the same thing, but I installed my own outdoor wood burner. My own gas fireplace. But that is me.

The cost will depend on who you fee. If it was me I would give you a quote of about $300.00 or more depending on the amount of exhaust flu work involved. Without seeing what is involved (in your garage mounting and required set backs - how many layers of components have to be cut through and shielded for exhaust, holding tank for fuel etc.) it is difficult to give an accurate estimate.

Good Chance

Does Province of New Brunswick have any plans to discontinue the use of waste oil furnaces that burn used oil?

I don't differentiate if NB as plans to discontinue the use of waste oil furnaces. But more likely they will mandate that newer furnaces have better emmissions.
