RV Furnace replacement/up grade?

I have a 1977 Avion Touring trailer. It has a 3,000 BTU Suburban NT-30 Furnace. It has a 3 wire hook up for the power and thermostat. If I bought a new one to make good on it, I would have a 4 wire hook up on the new furnace. Anyone out there ever make this swap? What about the 4th wire?
I forgot to add that this furnace is all 12 volt. There is no A/C power to it at all. 12VDC fan, nourish valve etc. So I can only assume the 4th wire may hook into the fan. I hear that some of the newer ones have a heat sensor that relate the fan to come on if the temp in the trailer get too high. Not sure bout that though ????
