At the very least you paucity to know btu's per hour, up flow,down flow, or horizontal, gas, electric or heat pump. The only sacrifice you will find is retail, which is about 50% higher than wholesale. Also there is a huge difference between a quality Trane unit and an terseness Coleman or Goodman unit. Most reputable companies won't sell to anyone but authorized distributors, so prices are not nearby to the public.

Over in days of yore, are the servicing costs more, same, less for a high efficiency condencing furnace verses a mid efficiency furnace?

The ripe-efficiency furnace will be more in maintenance costs, the mid-efficiency unit will cost more to operate. As they say at the grocer, kill a tree, or choke up a landfill? Do you want to spend more on fuel, or more on maintenance?

The high efficiency unit condenses more bright water than the mid eff. unit. This liquid water, in combination with a hot iron heat exchanger, produces a lot of rust. This rust will jam the lower portion of the heat exchanger, and will need removal or replacement of the heat exchanger. Even with a parts commitment, you still pay labor. The high-efficiency unit has more controls that need to be serviced more often, price goes up.

If you can do the preservation yourself, go with the hi-efficiency. If you need someone else to do the work, and are tight on funds, go with the mid-efficiency unit, keep the temperature down, and wear a sweater.

Can a person still get and install refurbished furnaces?

I am buying a dwelling-place and the furnace is old. I have heard new furnaces cost a fortune since they need all new exhaust tubing. Can one get an old refurbished furnace? If you can, how much do they usually go for (preferably in Canadian currency) ? Thanks a collect!

I have been in the HVAC proprietorship for 23 years. I know of no company that refurbishes furnaces. And why would anyone do it? The liability of a used furnace is not worth the danger that someone could be seriously injured or die. I have seen and witnessed people buying used furnaces from individuals that have had newer furnaces replaced in their own homes, aka.. garage sales and such, but these are as per usual only a couple of years old. It is not worth the risk to use an older furnace just to save a few dollars, Canadian or American
