Energy Star Audit p.3: Testing Furnace

See the Energy Star testing of a new model home. Schuyler Builders interviews Adirondack Energy Services about testing a furnace for Energy Star ...

What is an energy efficient temp for my thermostat to be set for during winter?

We have an energy star furnace but drafty doors. We have a Ashen Rodgers programable thermostat.
Our furnace is Natural Gas.

I about you'll find any local utility will recommend 68 deg unless you're sleeping or not home, then it drops to 55 deg. Use the programmable part of the thermostat to do this automatically.

New survive stripping for the doors will save it's cost in very little time and it's very easy to fit -- all you need is a pair of scissors.

I set my temp. to 60F at evensong and during work. I have it set it to 70 when people are home. If you can seal your doors better that would be a good place to adjust your heat bills.

Does anyone know if you can get a kick-back on taxes for energy star purchases?

In 2006 we replaced our furnace and air conditioner with an energy star rated system as well as our windows. I heard there is up to $500 in tax credits for energy reserve measures in Wisconsin. Is this true? How do I get this info? I have the proof of purchases, but what else might I need?

Yes. I transpire to have this handy because I am getting quotes on H/AC at the moment and one of the salesmen mentioned the TAX break. Only available years 2006 and 2007 only.

Spiders in the heating ducts?

I recently bought a well-informed in, and before the winter I had my furnace inspected. The Heating and Cooling guy was impressed with our furnace. It's one of those really pongy chief efficiency energy star furnaces that cost a ton of money. He explained that most furnaces take the air in the basement and recycle the air, but our furnace pulls air from the outside, filters it and then pushes the air through the residence. We recently turned our furnace off since the weather has been nice, and since that time I've noticed about 5 spiders coming through the interchange vent in the living room.
What can I do to stop this from happening?
John T-when you say "cycling the unit", what do you miserly?
Thanks Jack Bauer-you save the day once again. The company that cleans my chimney is an air duct cleaning gathering, maybe I should talk to them about doing that.

You might necessity to consider getting your ducts cleaned. The problem might not be that they are getting sucked in from outside-but that they are already in and nesting private your ducts. This companies website talks a little about it:
