how high/or low should the light above the dining room table be?

I right-minded hung a new chandelier above my dining room table. I can't figure out if it is to high or to low. I don't want it to be to high so that we are looking into a light bulb but not so low that it is head banger.

Does any one

I don't have in mind there is a proper etiquette or general rule of thumb. I agree with the 30" above the table, I think that's about how high mine is in my dining stay.

36" would be the lowest climax over the surface of a dining room table. Depending on the style of fixture, however, it may be hung higher. The point is that you don't requisite it to obstruct the view across the room even when standing.
