Why are there SALES taxes on RENTALS?

How can video/car/appliance rentals be liegeman to sales taxes if they're not being sold to you? Why am I being taxed on something I'm expected to give back?

You're being charged for the armed forces.
It's similar to getting a hair cut. You pay sales tax on that also.
You can count on one thing, the government will get their money one way or the other.

Some states have a sales /use tax,but is normally listed as a sales tax.
Government at all levels are trying to get as much money as they can from the taxpayers.
If you want to get Constitutional about the conclusion;cities,counties and states can not set or raise taxes without a vote of the people who reside within each govt. with.
The people can actually vote to reduce or eliminate taxes,only the federal congress can tax without a vote of the people.

Most states believe a rental similar to a short term lease. Your are the end user of the product for that short period of nonetheless and therefore pay the tax.

Because the tax is on the rental, the rental company doesn't pay sales tax when obtaining the product.

Contrary to what was listed above. A haircut is not taxable in most states. Most states on injunction tax on tangible items, not services. Some states charge a gross income tax to businesses. The business then passes this along to the consumer, effectively making it a sales tax on everything including services.

Is it a good idea to rant a fridge from AAA rentals?

i am on the move to another apartment which does not have a refrig. I've never rent any appliance before, just bumped into American Appliance rental location , and need an opinion whether it would be a good idea as i need a fridge only for 5 months before moving to another state? Any opinions please thanks.

look on www.craigslist.org

go to your ambit of the country and search "refrigerator". people are always unloading furniture and stuff below outlay and it'll be cheaper in the long run than renting. then you can just use craigslist to sell it if you move!

What is considered an "appliance" in a rental house?

I had to call a repairman into mend the burglar alarm, since the landlord did not respond to my letter requesting the needed repair. The landlord refuses to pay the charges, as the whistle is not considered an "appliance". The alarm has been a part of the house since we began renting(was pre-installed) and I maintained that it was a part of the whole house from the start, and is considered a part of the whole rental carton. What does the Landlord-Tenant Act state about items as an alarm and how it relates to the Landlords responsibility to preserve?

The distress is considered an amenity (as is a dishwasher and air conditioning).. not a necessity like a stove & refrigerator. Unless it specifically states in the sublet out that the landlord is required to maintain the alarm system throughout occupancy then you're responsible for the cost of fixing the distress-signal (and the landlord gets it fixed for free).


Ps. A microwave is also an amenity in this case.
