KCCI-TV's Steve Karlin reports.

I have a billion of small appliances that don't work that I want to get rid of... old curling irons, a blender, a toaster, a clock tranny that doesn't display the correct time. Can I recycle these items? And if I can, how do I go about finding the center. I live in Austin, TX.
yes you can pier them on freecycle.org other people take them and fix them so they dont wind up in junk yards
The toy has to move without batteries and also have to reinforce the following criteria:
-Sturdy
-Safe
-Durable
-Has to be able to capture a child's publicity
Thanks and look forward to your response!
The ideal rubber-band toy is a "come-back," which is simply a can or a plastic bottle with a rubber line connected between the centers of both ends. Hang a weight, such as a fishing lead from the center of the rubber merge so that it hangs down to one side.
When you roll the can or bottle away from you, the weight causes the rubber band to wind up, and after it has rolled as far as it can, the rubber line will unwind, driving the bottle back to you.
You can also use a thread spool to make a "rubber band tractor" by inserting the rubber bandeau through the hole in the spool. Secure the rubber band to the spool at one end and to a stick, such as a heavy kitchen matchstick at the other end. The fix should be long enough to reach the ground on one side.
Wind the rubber band by turning the stick, and place the tractor on the train. When the rubber band unwinds, the tractor will roll across the ground.
The third thing that comes to mind is a rubber tie airplane. These are made of balsa wood and are available in any hobby store or toy department.
Try an internet search on "rubber gang powered toys."
Every Boy Scout (and most of us girl scouts) knew all about these things in 1953. Have we gained or exhausted?
I heard it on the announce and want to know specifics.
